Most married immigration aspirants wish to relocate with their spouse or common-law partner, and children. Migrating with a partner provides support while assimilating to an unfamiliar environment. As an added advantage, the Comprehensive Ranking System – CRS points calculator attributes points for ‘Spouse Factors’ to candidates under the Express Entry program. These points can be claimed to enhance the total score and improve the CRS rank, thus increasing the probability of being selected from the pool of applicants and being granted the Canada PR visa.
The CRS allocates a point score out of 1200 – based on core competency, spouse/common-law partner factors, skill transferability, and additional considerations – to determine the Canada PR eligibility of a registrant. The primary applicant can be awarded up to 40 points, on the basis of the spouse/partner’s potential to contribute to the local economy. This is determined by evaluating the partner’s level of education, language skills and prior work experience in Canada. Level of Education (Maximum 10 points) The partner should at least have completed their secondary schooling (high school graduation), and undergone Educational Credential Assessment from the relevant authority, to claim these points. Points are awarded only for the highest academic qualification. However, those applying with their spouse or common-law partner must attempt to avail points under this criteria to inch closer towards the prospect of immigration to Canada.
